Very Loud Engine Sound

Postby FlatfootRed on Sun Sep 06, 2009 4:24 am

Hello,

I can't figure out a problem I am having with the engine sound. The Engines on the F-86 are many many times louder than they are on any other aircraft. I've spoken with some other people who have this problem, but others seem to have normal engine sound levels. I must go into my FSX sound settings and turn the engine sounds down to 4 or 5 percent or all other sounds are extremely difficult to hear. When I fly another aircraft (which rarely happens) I must turn the engine sounds back up to 40 or 50 percent in order to hear them well. Any ideas? Perhaps a re-installation is in order.... but I would hate to do that because it was difficult enough the first time.

Would only re-installing the sound files be a good fix? Thanks for any ideas and help you might come up with.

Best,

Chris

Hi Chris,

You aware of the fact that the engine sound gets louder with the canopy open, right ?.....

We have not heard of too loud engine noise during flight before... If you ask me it's a fat chance that something will change in this respect by re-installing the package. However you can never be sure, computers are still weird things, aren't they.... :)

Are you running XP or Vista ?....

Cheers,
Jan

Jan,

Yes I am running XP, and yes, the engine sound gets even louder with the canopy open. However, even with the canopy closed the engine sound is deafening. All other sounds seem to be at the appropriate level. What would control the volume level of sounds? I know it was a headache for me to install this aircraft in FSX, perhaps I made an error somewhere along the line. Do the sounds for the Sabre need to go both into the airplane folder and the main FSX sound folder? I remember putting some sounds into the main fsx sound folder.... perhaps this was a mistake

Hey Chris,

You DO wear a helmet, don't you !??

Yes, there are two different sound 'collections' , one pertains to the engine sounds, gear and flaps and should reside in the Sabre/Sound folder. The other collection produces additional sounds like click sounds for switches, buttons, handles, etc., and also the sounds for the power cart, tire scrub, o2 mask, and 'open canopy' sound, etc., and should have been installed in the FSX/Sound folder.

It just *might* be that you are hearing the 'open canopy' sound constantly on top of the normal sound suite....

Here's how your FSX/Sound/SF8_F86 folder should look like :

The 'canopy open' sound is the wav file in blue.

And this is what your FSX/Simobjects/Airplanes/SF8_F86EF-Sabre/Sound folder should look like :

If still no luck i can send you an easier to install Sabre FSX port-over package if you like.

Cheers,
Jan
