SF8 Sabre - FSX Support / Re: Virtual Nova Scotia International Airshow
« on: October 23, 2010, 09:47:18 AM »
Here is the latest schedule for the show on Saturday the 23rd:

2:50 CC-130 J
3:00 Mirage III    --  This should be a good one
3:10 Firestorm
3:22 CF-86 Hawk One
3:33 F4U Corsair
3:45 Navy Heritage
4:02 A-10 West
4:24 F-14 Tac Demo
4:45 Dueling Sabres   -- This will be an excellent 2-ship formation aerobatics with SF8 Sabre.
5:15 Fairey Firefly
5:25 FSX Glider
5:35 CF-18 Demo
6:00 FSX Skyblazers --  This is my team, a 4 ship recreating the 1956 USAFE Skyblazers in F-86s

All times are Eastern US

I think that Peter's Mirage flight, the Dueling Sabres, and the Skyblazers will be the ones to see.   The show can be viewed here: http://www.virtualnsairshow.tk/

We livestream the show live over the internet instead of having open sessions.  We will also have our flights recorded as video files for viewing later.  This allows us to minimize the amount of people in the session, and thus maximize our frames per second.  The live-stream program is a bit obnoxious with occasional advertisements, but we think the flying will be worth watching -- Peter was throughly impressed when he came to our last Skyblazer practice, saying "I've never seen anything like this in FSX before.... I can't believe you are doing this."  This will hopefully introduce people to a new category of FSX flying.

SF8 Sabre - FSX Support / Separate models for the FSX release?
« on: June 08, 2010, 10:41:03 PM »
Section F8 team,

Do you think it is possible to have two separate models for the FSX release of the aircraft?  It would be nice to have a model that was clean by default, and one that had tanks by default.  This way pilots flying in multiplayer could see people in the SectionF8 bird properly (assuming they communicated what aircraft they would fly before hand).  I almost always fly with tanks on, so this isn't such a big deal for me, but I imagine that others might enjoy seeing clean sabres in multiplyer.  As the aircraft works now, you must be in a SF8 Sabre and punch off your tanks in order to see everyone else's aircraft clean.  This is fine if everyone is flying the SF8 Sabre and they decide to drop tanks, but there is no way to make this work when flying dis-similar aircraft.  It would also be a nice feature for those who wanted to make movies of the SF8 Sabre in a clean configuration using FS Recorder.  Of course, I would assume that the aircraft with tanks could still drop theirs and it would work exactly as the current version does.

This is just an idea that I had floating around, I understand if it is not practical or desirable to try and implement such a thing.

Thanks again for all of the great work,

Chris Eells

SF8 Sabre - FSX Support / Re: Landing Gear Model
« on: April 29, 2010, 03:52:34 AM »
Jan,

Sorry to touch upon an open nerve.   I'm glad you are so pained by these little details, it's the reason that Section F8 turned out such a fine product.  The reason I brought this up is because I have the feeling (some kind of an instinctual sensor) that the team will soon be putting much more work into the Sabre as the MAAM sim project is completed...... I want to make sure I don't forget to mention anything that I've seen over the last 1,000 hours of flight in this great bird.

Perhaps I will send you a private message with a list of the quirks I've noticed in the Sabre (there aren't many).

Section F8 knows that they are Sierra Hotel programmers and modelers, so I don't need to tell them again.... but once again, thanks for this fantastic airplane.

Chris

PS.

Good eyes on spotting the V windscreen on the A model.  I looked really hard to make sure it didn't have that before claiming it as an E, but I guess my eyes are getting older.

SF8 Sabre - FSX Support / Landing Gear Model
« on: April 26, 2010, 12:48:22 PM »
A friend of mine told me that he felt the F-86 model that SectionF8 made looks a little funny around the landing gear, he felt that the struts were too long and that the aircraft sat too high off of the ground.  I started comparing the model to many photos that I have of the Sabre, and I think he is right.  Is there a reason that the struts look to be about a foot longer than the struts I see in photographs?  Perhaps it is a weight issue with the aircraft and if more weight were added the struts would compress.

Here are two images that illustrate this:

These both look like E models to me.

Cheers,

Chris

SF8 Sabre - FSX Support / ANOTHER SPEEDBREAK ISSUE
« on: April 26, 2010, 12:43:37 PM »
I hate to make another post about speedbreaks, but I think this might be a separate issue.  Sometimes, very rarely, the speedbreaks on the F-86 will have to deploy fully before being allowed to retract.  Usually, I can tap them in and out, but sometimes they will not come in until they deploy fully.

Speedbreaks are operated on a button (not slider), on the throttle the speed break switch is in the neutral position, and I can see the emergency lever move when I push the spoiler button on my joystick, hydraulic pressure is in the green, and the speed of the breaks seems normal.  I also can not produce this on a regular basis.  It happens perhaps once every 50 flights.  I thought that it was associated with SLEW MODE, but I'm not sure about that anymore.  It might have to do with spawning behind someone in a multiplayer session.

I now always check my speed breaks for functionality before I taxi.

Any help would be appreciated.

SF8 Sabre - FSX Support / Cool Sabre Video
« on: March 09, 2010, 03:19:25 AM »
Once again, I want to thank everyone who brought us such a fantastic aircraft.  I've logged about 1,300 hours of flying in FSX, and 3/4 of that time is in the Section F8 bird.  Can hardly wait for the upgrade and the native FSX version.

Here is a video I found of the 1955 Skyblazers flying the F-86,  Enjoy!
