SF8 Sabre - FSX Support / Re: Query about Section F8 future plans
« on: November 24, 2011, 03:27:21 AM »
The Milviz F-86 renders indeed look nothing short of spectacular !  :o

We'll have to wait and see what actually will be left of it in the flyable FSX version...  ::)

It could very well be that it will have an impact on our plans for a native FSX Sabre family surely. If it'll prove the Milviz F-86E/F will indeed be released in the first place of course...

Our plans still stand but it has now been proven unmistakebly that developing native FSX models is even much more demanding and time consuming than we could ever have imagined initially. We have started our pet Sabre project 'just as something on the side' for FS9, aka 'another era'.... Developing for FS9 just cannot be compared to developing for FSX ( if you have any of the wonderous AKA 'Accusim' FSX models you know what i mean.. ) With our main obligation focussed on Maam-Sim (also native FSX now) it will still take quite a while before we will be able to return to our beloved 'pet project on the side'.

In the mean time Milviz releasing a native FSX F-86E/F, possibly/hopefully, all singing and dancing, isn't such a bad idea at all ( i think... ) We could then make a fresh start with f.i. the F-86D/K/L or maybe FJ-2/3 or 4.

Mind you, just thinking out loud. We'll just have to hold on to our P-4's and hope for the best ( meaning time, time, and time and some more time too  8))

SF8 Sabre - FSX Support / Re: Windows 7 FSX and installing Sabre

Yes, i see that too, Don. It may well be caused by the fact that both the reticle and gunsight glass parts are ' closed' parts, like a box, as opposed to the canopy parts which are 'open' ( these have seperate external and internal parts ).

Currently i am very much booked up by various Maam-Sim projects but i will try and see if i can squeeze the Sabre somewhere in between and correct the reticle and gunsight glass problem. This will mean a new mdl file just for the FSX port-over of course.

There *may be* a glimmer of light at the end of the native FSX Sabre model but that's not 100% sure yet. Fingers crossed and oxygen regulator wide open is the message here...  ;D

Heya Don,

Yes, first time for me too to see it like this. Never a problem in XP, atleast not for me. The part has its own little texture bmp so it should be easy to fix. Maybe make it dissapear all together by making the alpha 0,0,0. Once i have a new texture i'll post it here.

Hey Peemers,

I assume you have used the FSX patch/fix along with the normal FS9 Sabre package ? It proved that some people found it difficult to install this initial FSX fix. Therefor, a while ago i created an easier 'one step' FSX fix. You can just unzip it in your FSX root folder and everything will be placed in the correct folders. No need to install the FS9 version first either. Along with the base model you'll get 5 additional liveries, thumbnails, and an adapted aircraft.cfg that deactivates most of the exhaust effects that will hit heavy on your fps in FSX. The effects files are still there so if you want to test them yourself you still can via the aircaft.cfg.

You can download this secondary ' easy install' here :

Since you have already installed the FS9 model in FSX i can advice you to uninstall it first before installing this new FSX fix.

I am a first time W7/64 user myself and i just installed the Sabre model in FSX without any problem apart from the usual anomalies related to FS9 port-overs in FSX.

Only one small issue remains : a black recticle..... i shall have to look into this... ( no pun intended.. 8) )

Good luck!

Hi Goldenhawk,

Wish i could tell you that the release of the native FSX version of our Sabre model is imminent but then i would be lying...
The SectionF8 Sabre project is something on the side, our work for MAAM-SIM comes first because the museum can really do with it. The good thing is that once we'll get the chance to get going at the native FSX F-86 version we'll have all the experience with native FSX design we need to make the best possible job of it. Will take a while surely but FSX will be with us until the cows come home and, like we say where i come from, 'what's in the barrel doesn't go sour' .   8)

Btw, sorry for the late reply, site has been hacked but it seems all's well again, Thanks Francois !

Hi Chuck !

Like Hansi said, thanks much for your wonderful postings !  Great to know you enjoy our Sabre model so much, better late than never, éh !?  8)

Btw, sorry for the late reply, our site has been hacked, couldn't post for a while. On top of that i've got a new computer and dealing with all tribulations that go with that...  ;D

Hope you'll enjoy flying your Sabre for a long time to come !

Announcements / Re: Section F8 Installer
« on: May 25, 2010, 05:35:42 AM »
Hi there cviper,

Thanks very much for the work you did on this new 'easy one click' F-86 installer. I have checked out both the FS9 and FSX installer and found them both to work perfectly. Great job !  8)

However.....  there's atleast one important thing with the FSX installer which you forgat about. It concerns the flame and smoke effects which work fine in FS9 but will cause severe drop of fps in FSX. It would be just a matter of ruling these few effects out in the aircraft.cfg's [lights] department.

I also noticed that there are two files missing in the FS9/FSX/Sound/SF8_F86 folder of your installer. 'Beep.wav' and 'oxy_mask.wav'.

I have put together an 'easy' FSX install zip file myself ( not officially released yet ) which you might want to download. You could then get those two missing sound files and add them to your installer ( both for FS9 and FSX) and check out the aircraft.cfg's [lights] to see which effects files need to be ruled out to get the best possible performance in FSX.

Download the file here :

Furthermore on your new installer : the 'texture' folder that comes with the FSX installer is superfluous, that's only needed for the FS9 installer ( all these files are already in the FSX 'texture.shared' folder of the Sabre model ). Secondly there's a superfluous 'SimObjects' folder in the FS9 installer..... Obviously that's not needed there..  ;D

Otherwise all fine !

Please let us know if you are willing to adapt your F-86 installer according to the above comments, Ok ?

Thanks much again for your work !

SF8 Sabre - FSX Support / Re: Landing Gear Model
« on: April 29, 2010, 03:27:47 AM »
Hi Chris,

Well, actually you are touching an open nerve here..... AUWW!!  Hate it when you do that !  ;D

Yes, nobody could be more aware of this particular glitch than me....  It has actually been one of the biggest issues in email exchance between Rob and myself. The damping animation itself is Ok, the wheels and oleo's end up in their specific struts all the way to the end but Rob couldn't get more compression and damping out of the nose wheel and still keep a reasonably amount of 'nose bobbing' upon braking without disturbing other characteristics of the flightmodel. And you're right, weight of the aircraft comes into play here very much so as well.

We have tried quite a few variations but at the time this was the best we could achieve. Certainly the nosewheel/oleo ( but the main gear as well to some extent ) should sit much deeper into its strut while the aircraft is on the ground, we hope to manage a much better result during the native FSX conversion of the model. For now i'm afraid this'll have to do. Sorry.  :-\

Btw, if you look closely at the windscreen of the RW F-86 in the photo that you posted you'll notice that it is of the early 'V' type, making that an F-86A. Nontheless that's how the nosewheel gear should look when the Sabre is sitting on the ground, yep...  8)  ( there are some variations to see amongst the many photo's of parked Sabre's )

Hi Hans-Jörg ( name sounds familiar..  8)  ),

Thanks for compliments ! There's indeed a LOT involved to convert an FS9 model to native FSX. To begin with, all textures and texture mappings will have to be redone as well as ALL anims. But, believe me, the difference will not go unnoticed, to say the least.... F.i. the texture quality will be doubled, or even tripled, compared to what you see now. Also typical FSX goodies like bumpmapping, specific specular highlighting and better reflectivity will come into play as well as much better special FX, lighting, sounds and animations.

If you *like* our FS9 Sabre model now, you will *LOVE* it once the native FSX version has been materialised. That's a promise !

To quote BTO :  "  B..B..B..Baby, You Ain't Seen N..N..N..Nothing Yet !  ;D

Afraid the word is 'negative' , Speedbird..

At the moment, and probabely for a long time to come, THE word is 'FSX' ...

Struggling hard to get a first native FSX model off the ground, will be a Maam-Sim release. After that i hope to have a go at the first native FSX F-86 iteration. Might be E/F or D/K/L or maybe one of the FJ's..... Not really decided yet.

I can only say hang in there...  8)
